Vegetable Gardens & Edible Landscapes
Vegetable gardening is of great importance to us at Aspen Garden & landscape. Growing food locally greatly reduces the amount of fossil fuels invested in production and transportation while ensuring that produce is grown in a manner one can be comfortable with. Home vegetable gardens can be as simple as a few tomato, squash and pepper plants or as complex as something you might see on a gardening show. Although we are not experts on vegetable gardening, we feel it is an important landscape element to consider. Aspen Garden & Landscape can help you to design a vegetable plot, have a soil test done, prepare the planting bed, and help install plants & seeds. We highly recommend home vegetable gardens for those clients with young children.
In addition to 'traditional' vegetable gardens, we are big believers in edible landscaping. Using plants that are both beautiful and create food just makes sense. Many trees produce edible nuts. A variety of fruit trees can grow in Wisconsin and are available in sizes to fit into nearly any landscape. Berry bushes like black chokeberry can be very attractive and suitable to many landscapes. Smaller plants, like strawberries, can make a nice groundcover and there are countless herbs and plants that can be used for teas and other uses.
