Won't You Be My (Dry) Neighbor?
This project showcased the importance of meticulous coordination on multiple fronts. Our team worked closely with neighbors to address water management issues and ensure everyone was on board with the proposed solutions. Collaboration between our design staff and installers was critical in developing an efficient plan to address the existing problems. Furthermore, we coordinated with the gas company to safely relocate utilities affected by the project.
The homeowners faced significant challenges due to improper grading in their side yard, which had caused water to infiltrate a finished area of their basement. Previous construction efforts had aimed to preserve a large tree but neglected the necessary grading, ultimately resulting in the tree's demise and ongoing drainage issues.
After thoroughly analyzing the site, we were able to determine a viable solution that involved adjusting the grading of both the homeowner’s property and the neighboring lot. This strategic approach not only addressed the immediate concerns but also enhanced water flow management for the entire area.
Our skilled team implemented the design with precision, leading to a successful outcome where water now flows naturally through the site, alleviating previous issues. This project stands as a testament to the power of careful planning and collaborative effort in achieving a sustainable landscape solution.
This photo shows part of the “hornet’s nest” of utilities we were dealing with. In addition to grading immediately above and around the communications and electric lines, we had to have the gas line moved. Show in the photo is one of our yellow site altimeters which allow us to precisely measure grades for projects of this nature.
