Three Spaces

Three garden rooms - each with it’s own purpose.

Clearly, We all need a nice place to eat outdoors

…. with some flowers and life around.

That kale’s gotta come from somewhere ….

These home owners are growing much of their own in their raised garden beds

…. And NOW there’s a BABY.

We’re helping to install a special garden room for exploration and play !

This was a fun project for us. The clients trusted us to create a special place for their family and friends - and asked that we solved some stormwater issues along the way.

What you can’t see is the grade adjustments we did to make this all work. The elevations on this property were very flat and water in the basement was always a question with every storm. We raised the grade along the back of the home (requiring a step up into the rear yard) and carefully reprofiled everything to include much more desirable slopes away from the home, coupled with rain gardens to soak in rainfall once it was a reasonable distance away from the home.

We kept the overall forms very simple here…. Letting the three areas be simple rectangles - each with its own personality . I simple lawn path unites the areas and invites guests to explore the gardens. Somehow, dividing a space can make it feel much larger. That was the case here. Rather than a simple lawn there is now a landscape that sustains the spirit, the soul, and (hopefully) the curiosity of a little one.
